‘Always the right solution’ is the theme of DAF’s participation at IAA 2014, to be held in Hannover from 25 September to 2 October. DAF Trucks will display their entire range of products and services at the show to illustrate that DAF offer the perfect solution for every transport need.

The focus is on:

• A customised solution for every transport need.
• New product – CF Silent, an extra quiet distribution vehicle New product – CF and XF mega tractor units with a fifth wheel height of 91 cm
• Predictive Cruise Control combined with Predictive Shifting
• New leather upholstery as an option for CF and XF

The DAF stand can be found in Hall 17 and covers an area of ​​2,500 m2. The stand will showcase the full Euro 6 product range, its high quality, low running costs and vehicle performance. The DAF trucks that will be on display at the stand include the new LF for distribution transport, the versatile CF for a variety of applications and the flagship XF for heavy and long-distance transport. The new Euro 6 series has been expanded to include a complete range of three- and four-axle vehicles. There’s a DAF truck for every transport need.

CF Silent

DAF have developed the unique CF Silent for urban distribution when noise restrictions apply. When CF Silent is set to its Silent Mode setting, the noise level is less than 72 dB (A), which means that the CF can be certified as a quiet truck, allowing it to load and unload goods in areas where noise restrictions apply in the evening, at night and in the early morning.

New CF and XF mega tractor units with a fifth wheel height of 91 cm

One of the major innovations at IAA 2014 is a mega tractor unit for Euro 6 CF and XF tractor units for volume shipments.

The fitting of low-profile tyres (315/45 / R22.5) and adapted air suspension has made it possible to reduce the fifth wheel height from 96 cm to just 91 cm. This means that within the maximum vehicle height of four metres, trailers with an internal height of three metres can be used, making volumes of more than 100 m3 possible.

The new DAF CF and XF mega tractor units are available with front-axle air suspension. In addition, a new one-leaf parabolic suspension has been developed.

A new wind deflector for the XF mega tractor unit with Super Space Cab ensures optimal aerodynamics and fuel savings and reduced CO2 emissions of up to 1.5%.

The new DAF mega tractor units are available with wheelbases of 3.6 and 3.8 metres and are powered by a state-of-the-art 10.8-litre PACCAR MX-11 or 12.9-litre PACCAR MX-13 engine.

Predictive Cruise Control and Predictive Shifting

DAF is launching Predictive Cruise Control combined with Predictive Shifting at IAA 2014. This option will be available from January 2015 for Euro 6 CF and XF models with an automated AS Tronic 12-speed gearbox. This sophisticated technology has been developed by DAF’s engineering team and helps to improve vehicle efficiency.

Predictive Cruise Control uses advanced GPS technology to determine the exact position of the vehicle and to predict future driving conditions over the next one to two kilometres. The system ‘looks’ forwards and anticipates slopes and descents.

The driver sets the desired speed in advance, as well as the permissible deviation above and below the set speed with three preset options for the permitted lower deviation. Within the specified area, Predictive Cruise Control determines the ideal speed and Predictive Shifting selects the ideal gear.

The basis for both technologies is to drive as long as possible in the highest possible gear within the optimal speed range.

In some cases, Predictive Speed ​​Control allows the vehicle speed to drop below the set value, such as at the top of a hill, as the system ‘knows’ that the potential energy will quickly bring the vehicle back up to the desired speed. Predictive Speed ​​Control can also temporarily allow a higher speed than that set (within predefined tolerances) in order to reduce fuel consumption as much as possible.

The ultramodern Predictive Speed ​​Control and Predictive Shifting capabilities will further strengthen DAF’s industry-leading position for fuel efficiency and overall low cost of ownership.

Leather interior

DAF cabs set the standard in terms of space, quality and comfort. Beautiful leather upholstery for Euro 6 CF and XF models will be on show at IAA. The upholstery is available as an option and includes the seat, steering wheel and door panels (XF). The upholstery comes in a chic copper colour with colour-co-ordinated accents for an extra touch of luxury and even greater comfort.
