PACCAR reports a positive year – new products and a strong after-sales market generate higher profits

On Friday PACCAR reported record annual sales of USD 17.12 billion and a net profit of USD 1.17 billion for 2013.
‘PACCAR achieved the third highest annual net profit in the company’s history,’ said Mark Pigott, chairman and CEO of US-based PACCAR, DAF’s parent company. ‘PACCAR’s financial results reflect the company’s high standard of products and services. I’m very proud of our 22,000 employees, who have delivered outstanding results for our shareholders and customers.’
Thanks to the company’s high level of sales in 2013, PACCAR has been able to invest in all areas of the business. In 2013 PACCAR launched a new range of trucks – the Kenworth T880, the Peterbilt 567 and DAF CF and LF Euro 6. PACCAR expanded its range of engines, focusing in particular on the development of the PACCAR MX-13 engine and the introduction of the PACCAR MX-11 engine. PACCAR Parts also broadened its global network of distribution centres, which resulted in record sales of spare parts.
2013 Highlights
- PACCAR opened its new DAF assembly line in Brazil.
- PACCAR delivered 137,100 vehicles worldwide and introduced the new Kenworth T880, the Peterbilt 567 and DAF 567 CF and LF Euro 6 models.
- PACCAR invested USD 660.9 million in capital projects and research and development.
- PACCAR expanded its range of diesel engines by launching the PACCAR MX-11.
- PACCAR Parts opened new distribution centres (PDCs) in Eindhoven in the Netherlands and Ponta Grossa in Brazil. It also doubled the size of its centre in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
- DAF were named Fleet Truck of the Year for the seventh time in a decade by Motor Transport in the UK.
- Kenworth T680, powered by the PACCAR MX-13 engine, was named Heavy-Duty Commercial Truck of the Year by American Truck Dealers (ATD).
- PACCAR has completed 22,300 Six Sigma projects since 1997.
In 2013 DAF achieved a record 16.2% share of the market in the heavy-duty segment (16+ tonnes) in the EU. DAF are the market leader in the tractor unit segment. ‘Hauliers appreciate DAF’s high standard, low operating costs and excellent resale value,’ says DAF president Harrie Schippers.
DAF and Kenworth registered 3,900 trucks in Russia in 2013 supported by a DAF and Kenworth reseller network of 38 sales offices and service locations.
DAF introduced their CF model in Taiwan in 2006. The range has since been expanded with the launch of the DAF LF for urban distribution at the end of 2012. With their 16% market share, DAF are now the largest European truck manufacturer for the 16+ tonne segment in Taiwan.
Brazil 2
In October 2013, DAF’s 30,000 m2 assembly plant in Ponta Grossa, Brazil was completed. The truck market in Brazil is huge. In 2013, 149,000 heavy-duty (16+ tonnes) trucks were sold in the country. In the fourth quarter of 2013, DAF started producing trucks in Brazil. DAF plan to gradually increase truck production in 2014 and have a long-term target of a 20% market share. The independent DAF reseller and service network consisted of 20 regions in Brazil in 2013 and this will expand to 40 regions in 2014.

PACCAR Parts achieved record sales in 2013. Its continued growth has been driven by PACCAR’s investment in distribution, technology and products, including Truck and Trailer Parts (TRP) that cater for all truck makes and models, trailers and buses.
CDP
PACCAR is committed to reducing its environmental impact. In 2013 PACCAR joined CDP (formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project) to monitor and compare greenhouse gas emissions and energy use. CDP’s Climate Change Program provides annual reports on how companies worldwide are developing energy-efficient processes and environmentally friendly products and services that protect and preserve the environment.
